Rhett Crites, CMEA. Heavy equipment only, since 2009.

The appraiser behind Texas Equipment Appraisal looks at the equipment or the records on it, researches the market, then writes the report and is the one who answers for the number in it. Every Texas Equipment Appraisal report is that one person’s work from the first look at the equipment list to the finished document.

Credentials you can check

CMEA

The Certified Machinery and Equipment Appraiser designation is issued by NEBB Institute. Its code of ethics makes the appraiser an advocate of the appraisal alone, never of a client.

CAGA

Membership in the Certified Appraisers Guild of America is a second credential, held separately from the first.

USPAP

Every report is written to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, the standard a lender, a court or the IRS expects an appraisal to meet.

IRS-Qualified

The IRS sets a definition of a qualified appraiser for tax filings, and the appraiser meets it.

Work Texas Equipment Appraisal turns down

Each of these costs paying work. Each is also what makes a report hold when someone tests it.

A value named in advance

When a client says what the number has to be before the work starts, the job ends there. The standards bar an assignment with the answer set ahead of time, high or low.

A fee tied to the value

A quote rests on the scope, the count of machines, the level of inspection and the deadline. It never rests on the conclusion.

A desktop report where an inspection is needed

Where condition drives the value and nothing on file documents it, the equipment gets inspected or the file is declined.

Anything that is not heavy equipment

No real estate, no aircraft, no livestock and no fine art. A file outside heavy equipment is declined.
